CCO’s Summermusik travels down Silk Road with Rachel Barton Pine, Kronos Quartet

“What’s interesting about Middle Eastern music is there’s such a strong tradition of violin playing in so many of those countries,” said renowned American violinist Rachel Barton Pine, by phone. “It has its own musical language and use of the instrument. I feel like there hasn’t been enough to combine those traditions with the Western art music tradition. … I had the unusual good fortune to have played two different concertos inspired by music by that part of the world, but I feel like there’s so much more still to discover.”
